My favorite site to do with writing so far has to be 750 Words. The website itself is a work of art. Buster Benson, the site's creator has a huge flair for creating sites that get you off your ass by whatever means possible and I want to start off by saying that the website has been one of the things that has led to huge leaps of faith on my part when it comes to motivation, inspiration, and follow through. 750 words is about 3 pages of handwritten text. The goal of the site is to have its users write that much every day.
When you navigate to the website, you'll find yourself face-to-face with one of Buster's beautiful fonts, a key component of most of his sites. You can log in with your Google, Yahoo, facebook, or Open ID account. Once you log in, you'll be taken to the day's writing page where you can write your first 750 words. At the bottom left of the page is the time and your live word count. Here's the cool part: Once you finish them, the site uses sophisticated language analysis to give you a report about what you wrote. Your 750 words are completely private. As Buster says himself on the website: "I've tried writing my 750 words a day on Livejournal, Wordpress, PBWorks, Tumblr, and all of these other sites designed around putting content online. It hasn't worked for me. I fear that I might accidentally forget to mark daily pages as private". One of his earlier projects is one you might have already heard of: 43 things, which is, in fact, the largest online goal based community. I myself have an embarrassing profile I made quite a while ago. Embarrassing because of my inability to spell, or at least use spell check at the time I made it. Repeat attempts at trying to reclaim my account on the site have failed since the email connected to the account has been abandoned by myself in the past. Maybe I should do something about that long dead account...
